Mariano ASSANAMI Sabino, as Interim Prime Minister, together with Dom Virgรญlio Cardeal do Carmo da Silva , inaugurated the Nossa Senhora do Rosรกrio de Fรกtima Chapel, in Bairru-Pitรฉ Dรญli, on April 21st.
At the inauguration ceremony, the Interim Prime Minister, Engยบ Mariano ASSANAMI Sabino, on behalf of the Executive Chief, Maun Boot Kay Rala Xanana Gusmรฃo, congratulated the Christians, priests and nuns who worked together with great effort to build this chapel from the beginning to its conclusion.
The State of Timor-Leste continues to recognize the contribution of the Catholic Church in the past and present, based on the constitutional agreement with the Holy See on August 14, 2015. Therefore, the Government annually grants a public subsidy to the Timorese Episcopal Conference (CET ), to be allocated to the three dioceses thereโ€™s Baucau, Dili and Maliana, to finance social and educational activities and the Government’s ecclesiastical services.
“We have the Civil Society Support Office that continues to provide continuous support to build small chapels throughout the territory, always in coordination with the Bishops”, said the Deputy Prime Minister, in his capacity as Interim Prime Minister.
The State considers that the Catholic religion is not just a belief, but it is an identity for Timor-Leste, so the Prime Minister asked all Christians, especially young people, to use the chapel not only for prayer, but also as a meeting place for conversations, music, religious education and other youth-related activities.
Representatives of the GASC, Christian leaders from Bairro -Pitรฉ, Priests, nuns, Civil entities, Military personnel and the general population also participated in the ceremony.
